Planned Fallacy
A fallacy is an argument which has a basis that does not support its conclusion. One common fallacy, termed a “red herring”, introduces an irrelevant issue to distract attention away from the real issue. Another fallacy, called a “straw man”, distorts an opposing view and then attacks it. If you want to practice identifying them, all you have to do is listen to discussions about controversial issues, especially in the political realm.
Take for instance the hot topic of Planned Parenthood (PP) and their abortion services. Setting views aside momentarily, strictly consider the arguments: The pro-life argument is that abortion takes the life of a child and is wrong. The pro-abortion argument is that if you oppose abortion, you’re against women’s health and freedom. The latter distorts the pro-life view to demonize opponents as extremists (straw man) and then also changes the topic from a moral judgment to being about “health and freedom” (red herring). Everyone I know that is against abortion is either a woman or a man with a wife, daughter or at least a mother – all very much concerned about women’s health. So what‘s the real issue we are being distracted from? Is it all the mishandling of federal funds or the sway of special interest groups? I wish that were all.
If you have listened to any of the congressional hearings on the funding of PP and the incriminating videos about the sale of “fetal” body parts, you can read between the lines. Now I want to be clear that not everyone who’s pro-abortion necessarily agrees with the ultimate goal I’m about to state, but they’ve fallen victim to fallacies. However, the abortion supporters in the political arena know exactly what they’re doing.
During a hearing, Rep. DelBene (D-WA) in defense of PP asked if particular groups would be impacted more significantly if PP services weren’t available. To which pro-PP expert witness, Priscilla Smith, testified “Absolutely. Women who don’t have insurance, low-income women in particular, women of color in communities which don’t have access to high quality services and don’t have health insurance”. What’s striking is that if you understand the ideology behind PP and the Democratic platform, then you realize they target impoverished areas for a reason, but it has nothing to do with women’s health.
It’s well documented that Margaret Sanger founded PP to practice racial eugenics in order to exterminate blacks and obtain a “purified” utopian society. Today, most in the Democratic Party still have a utopian goal, but their socialistic ideology now practices class eugenics. And they are using PP and your tax dollars to kill-off the unborn of the lower class who are very burdensome to socialist programs like Obamacare. This is not a fallacy; it is the gruesome reality of Marxist/Leninist socialism where the ruling class (government) defines morality and the end always justifies the means – even if it involves lying & killing.
Furthermore, I imagine that many people supporting PP have perhaps been involved in an abortion– maybe even some politicians voting on it. They don’t want to consider it to be morally wrong and pile on more guilt. So I leave you with this– God can forgive and heal you (Luke 7.36-50), but will God forgive and heal our nation if we do nothing about this brutality against the weakest in our society?
