About two years ago, I wrote a couple articles (see very bottom) warning people of the dangers of Obamacare. Many others were sounding warnings as well. And many Americans contacted their representatives to encourage them to vote it down. But it was too late. Elected to power were a Democratic president and house majority with a socialistic agenda, who cast 100% of the yes-votes and signed it into law.
Prior to becoming law, late night procedural votes on weekends were employed to advance the far-reaching legislation while most of the country was inattentive. And treacheries like the “Cornhusker Kickback”, “Louisiana Purchase” and many other questionable deals were attempted to influence waffling state representatives. But the majority of Americans didn’t want it. It was the will of a party over the will of the people. Now well over half of all states and several other entities have filed lawsuits against Obamacare over Constitutional quandaries.
Apart from these ethical deficiencies, there was much controversy in the legislation over federal funding of abortion. To appease holdouts, the President issued an Executive Order promising funds wouldn’t go directly toward abortions. Of course, providing funds to abortion providers for other services still supports their overhead and promotes their industry via dubious accounting. So even under current law, tax money indirectly funds abortions and the order is meaningless.
Currently, there’s further Constitutional contention regarding the government’s requirement of employers to provide coverage for contraception, sterilization and abortion pills (“morning after”). In response, the Administration offered a “compromise” involving still more dubious accounting which maintained their goal while further offending their opposition and inspiring more litigation.

While there’s understandable focus on issues of life and right of conscience, there’s something at hand that’s in grave danger of being overlooked. Moral issues are based upon one’s beliefs. These beliefs can be grouped into recognized religions, but it’s the unrecognized ones that cause trouble. Hence the saying, “beware of the sound of one hand clapping”. Arguments over moral issues are always two-sided –1 religious belief against another. So it’s extremely important to recognize that it’s not just Protestant and Catholic organizations that have a religious view in this debate, but also the secular view of the Democratic Party (not every Democrat).
Now that the government has forced its way into arenas it shouldn’t be in (like healthcare), the dark door has been opened to promote the religious beliefs of those in power. What we are witnessing is the establishment of secular religion (humanism / Marxism / Leninism) by the government and the enforcement of its beliefs –a direct violation of the first amendment which states “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof”. The fallout is the administration’s intolerance of religious competition. And if its secular beliefs weren’t religious in nature, it would not have the array of recognizable religious opponents that it does. Behold, the abortion of religious freedom. And its religious freedom which is essential for freedom in general because it safeguards the personal beliefs we all hold as individuals. And regardless of which beliefs you have, they generally govern your actions. Compromise religious freedom and, in time, freedom at large is compromised. So, while it’s still possible, I’m exercising another portion of the first amendment – the right of free speech. If these violations trouble you as they do me, please contact your representatives and let them know how you feel. And certainly keep these things in mind when going to the polls this next election and every one after. (BTW, I'm not advocating violence, but rather the seriousness of the matter.)
