Questions I Ask Myself
Below are some important questions for anyone to ask themselves when they are trying to understand Biblical truth or any truth for that matter. Remember, truth is singular & cannot contradict itself. And there cannot be more than 1 version of the truth or "personal truth". The beauty of a Biblical worldview is that it is consistent & each part fits nicely together with all the other parts. If I think there is a contradiction, either 1 or both areas on conflict are incomplete or just wrong.
- What is the truth? (Pr 23.23)
- Is my understanding of an idea or teaching in conflict with other truths? (Mt 22.29)
- Am I holding to other cultural or denominational teachings or beliefs that prevent me from properly understanding the truth in another area? (Mt 15.3, 6)
- Does my doctrine guide my understanding of Scripture or the other way around?
- If I were deceived in some area, how would I recognize it? (Col 2.8)
- If God were to change my thinking, what would that look like? (Rom 3.4)
- What If I was wrong in a particular area & mislead others with respect to the truths of God? (Jas 3.1-2)
- Am I too comfortable with certain Scripture passages or think I've learned all there is about them? (Php 3.12-14)
- Am I teachable? (Jn 8.31-32)
- What keeps me from being teachable? (Jn 6.60-63)
Surely You desire truth in the inner parts;
You teach me wisdom in the inmost place. - Ps 51.6

and blessed is he who trusts in the LORD. - Pr 16.20
Instruct a wise man and he will be wiser still;
teach a righteous man and he will add to his learning.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom,
and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. - Pr 9.9-10
When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom. - Pr 11.2
Buy the truth and do not sell it; get wisdom, discipline and understanding. - Pr 23.23

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written: "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate."
Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. - 1 Cor 1.18-21
