Aircraft
Here's a few of my fav's...
P-51 Mustang by North American Aviation
The short 3 month development time during WW2 was astounding. The laminar flow wing & in-line engine afforded it great performance once coupled with the right engine. Gotta love the sound of the V-1650 Merlin V12 engine.
SR-71 Blackbird by Lockheed Martin
I know this is a common favorite. Not only does it have stunning style, but stunning performance to go with it. It had 2 P&W turbojet engines that converted to ramjet engines to achieve Mach 3+. Developed in the late 1950's, it has performance that's unmatched by an air-breathing aircraft to this day.
F-104 Starfighter by Lockheed Martin
Another plane developed by Lockheed in the 1950's, the Starfighter has been called a "Missle with a man in it". Seems appropriate since it is basically a GE J79 turbojet with a cockpit & razor blades for wings. It was the first aircraft to hold simultaneous official world records for speed, altitude and time-to-climb. They have an intriguing howl as they pass by.
