Agenda For Sale
Published 2-Sept-09 in The Times
There are a few things that scare me about the proposed universal health care system, i.e. “public health insurance” (HR 3200). I’m admittedly conservative, but let me set that aside & attempt to examine this objectively. The first thing is that it’s not the government’s job to provide health care. Granted, the current system has its problems. But if I’m having a hard time hearing, I don’t go to my optometrist & say “Doc, I was wondering if you could help me hear?”
Next, current health care providers are in business to make money. They aren’t Not-For-Profit organizations & unfortunately, they don’t do it out of the kindness of their hearts. I can’t help but wonder if the current administration wants to enter this business to fund various agendas that may or may not be in the best interest of us tax payers. Such things could be buried in bureaucracy & difficult to track down, kind of like they are in the 1000+ page proposed bill.
Then, something doesn’t seem right when a business enters a market, but has the authority to regulate its competitors, vendors & customers (Sec 221-225). This is what we like to call a monopoly & it’s illegal everywhere else. Would this not ultimately make current insurance providers uncompetitive & put them out of business along with their employees? We would then have no choice, but to inundate the government’s services. Sounds fun. Not to mention, how would the proposed price-fixing of services affect a medical provider’s judgment?
Another thing is that federal employees take part in the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHBP) & would not have to take part in whatever health care system is voted in. This seems to be a conflict of interest, or rather disinterest. What is really motivating the individuals that cast their votes for us?
This brings me to another point. I find it disturbing when some of our so-called representatives & senators claim to attend town-hall meetings to “listen to the people” & in the next breath mention they are there to “convince” people of certain issues. That sounds less like representing & more like a sales job.
Now, if I can put my conservative hat back on… I happen to be one of those people who have received several unsolicited emails from the White House. In my opinion, these amount to nothing less than propaganda. To sum up the most recent one about Obamacare in my own words, “Don’t listen to any opposing views. Don’t waste time understanding anything. We need to just rush our plan through.” The main evidence of its propaganda content was its word-for-word subject title of “Something worth forwarding”. What bothers me most is that these emails may influence people to action (or inaction) before they are sufficiently informed about their subjects, but I guess that’s what propaganda is supposed to do. How disturbing.

It seems any opposition that gets close to revealing any hidden agendas strikes a nerve such as when Major Garrett asked White House Press Secretary Gibbs about such emails... The left-leaning media promotes its share of propaganda as well. Can you imagine the vast negative coverage if the Bush administration resorted to such tactics?
Someone once wrote “Propaganda must always address itself to the broad masses... All propaganda must be presented in a popular form… Propaganda must not investigate the truth objectively… yet it must present only that aspect of the truth which is favorable to its own side... The receptive powers of the masses are very restricted, and their understanding is feeble.” That someone was Adolf Hitler. As a result of his socialist propaganda, Germans loved & supported him to their own demise.

Dig into the details of HR 3200 & the facts are scary. Moral ramifications are scarier. Trustworthy analysts reveal that while morally objectionable issues such as abortion & euthanasia are not specifically mentioned in the enormous bill, they are not prohibited & are therefore open to acceptance in the creatively broad language (Sec 122 & 1233). Who would ever find out if they were covered by tax-payer money? This is how the bill’s proponents can scoff “That’s not in there” all the while knowing it’s fully possible. How deceiving. The President & like-minded Majority Democrats ran on a pro-abortion ticket. We would be ignorant to accept that.
If you think current health care dealings are painful, wait until you toss bureaucratic decision making into the system. Better get in shape to jump through all the “qualification” hoops. Be sure to duck before you hit a limitation. Penalties for businesses, individuals & health care providers apply to any who do not comply. Doesn’t sound very healthy for our ailing economy. Funding is by us, our children & their children… assuming they survive. We don’t need an option that’s morally compromising, government dominated, socialized & going to plummet us further into debt. No thank you.
