-isms
19-Sep-11
Once upon a time, I hadn’t a care;
I had need to, but wasn’t aware
Of the many –isms lurking about;
Some within, some without.
–isms afoot to achieve a feat;
With one another they do compete
For each heart & for each soul;
All throughout the world whole.
Unsuspecting, innocent lassies & lads
And busy, hard-working moms & dads
Are fed information all their lives;
Sometimes truth, sometimes lies.
–isms come in all shades & colors;
Some even look just like others;
Especially when they become mixed.
Some are thin, some are thick.
We pick the –isms of our own liking;
Thus they become far too blinding.
They justify all we’re after,
But in the end, they’re our master.
Our –ism connects some dots at first,
But never satisfies our thirst.
We subtly settle for things this way;
Next thing you know, we’re lead astray.
Life issues arise – What do you do, sir?
Your –ism demands a certain answer.
Do you accept it without a doubt?
Now invested – no way out.
They may claim science & facts,
But –isms are full of holes & cracks.
Rhetoric, rights, –isms of religion;
Hallow promises, vain superstition.
Is your thinking really free?
Shut out possibility.
What now is your forced conclusion,
Living in physical illusion?
How do you know which is true?
One that’s the same through & through?
Never changing – no need, nor cause;
It’d be perfect you see, without flaws.
–isms come from definite conjecture;
It’d be information of different texture.
Not an –ism of man’s imagination,
But something sent by divine revelation.
It might seem strange or even unlikely;
What’d you expect from the Almighty?
To be simple & minute, just like you?
Or especially different, pure & true?
At first, I might take offense,
But later decide it makes much sense;
Of the broken world I occupy.
How else could I see my lie?
Now, I ask which –ism has you?
Won’t you exchange it for something true?
The truth lies in a Person;
Christ
